But now take into consideration, are you going to mod it? If so I would go with the 5.0 The car will be cheaper and all the parts will be cheaper. Not to mention the 5.0 sounds MUCH better. And I think the 5.0 responds pretty good to any mod alittle better than a 4.6 SOHC. I think.

I've never heard of a 97-97 GT taking a 94-95 GT stock for stock with equal drivers. Typically the 5.0L in the 94-95 Cars runs stronger than the first generation 4.6L. However the difference is not so much as to remove driver skill from the equation.
The 96 GT's are nice cars. the 4.6L responds well to boost. Parts are more too.
The 94-95 GT's are great (I
may be a little bias here

). Parts are cheaper because you have the support of the 5.0L engine and there are less electronic controls on the car. (easier to change timing, read trouble codes, etc).
Either way a
Mustang GT is a great Base.
