A 1" spacer on a stock intake would kill it. The intake runners are already long enough. Increasing runner length would only further choke the motor above 4500rpm.
The only time I recommend using a intake spacer is when you block off the egr. If you don't block off the egr the spacer isn't going to lower you intake temp at all. Since the EGR gases flow up through the intake manifold.
Of course now I've open another can of worms. If you drive the car alot on the street and you are concerned about mpg I wouldn't ditch the egr. Plus you would need some sort of chip to disable the egr in the computer or you will experience rough idling and part throttle detonation.
