cylinder head guru's, please help!
It appears that my valve spring dampners are cutting into my valve spring shims.
I found metal shavings around my rocker arms when I tore it down. I guess this was the source?
Anyway, what would cause this? My springs are rated I believe up to .575 lift, and Im running around a .540 lift cam.
They are edelbrock performer 5.0 heads. The shims appear to be of a fairly light weight and flimsy material. Do I just need stronger shims, or do I have another problem?
And where can I buy replacement shims?
Also, there is a number stamped into the head by each spring seat. Its eithier 45 or 60. I assume this is the thickness that the shim is supposed to be for that corresponding spring seat in thousands of an inch. Is that correct?
