No special tools to "physically" remove it, but you may wish to have the system professionally evacuated (or dump the freon into the atmosphere)...

p.s. If you want a fine working compressor, buy mine! I just pulled it off, with 32K original miles on it, and sincec I rarely use it, I am just pulling it off.
