Angry BS & HP

Another insecure little dork with a new car, a payment book in his back pocket and a nice room in mom and dad's house where he indulges himself by reading car magazines and dreaming up absurd stories to tell at the hang-out on Saturday night.

A lot of these BSing guys drove some old beat-up Civic or a mom's cast-off Chevy Celebrity and five minutes behind the wheel of a real car makes them giddy - and stupid.

I've seen these idiots all my adult life. They BS out of insecurity and stupidity. They often don't know a turbo from a supercharger or a header from an intake manifold. Sad.
Unfortunately, there are so many like this around that they get away with the BS.
I was fortunate to hang around with real racers and mechanics when I started driving and I worked at gas stations during the summer and on weekends, learning plenty from people who raced semi-pro at the local oval or dragstrip. No BSing was allowed and your HP didn't mean much but timeslips (or a checkered flag, did).

I still have zero patience with that kind of lying idiot and call them on it immediately when it comes up, as it always does when you get a bunch of semi-strangers together with performance cars to show off.
The last time that happened to me I was at an informal parking lot car show and some jerk with a mildly modded '89 Mustang 5.0 started claiming that he 'used to' have a blower on it and it ran 11's. I asked him how what kind of blower he used, how many pounds he ran on it and what he used for a fuel set-up. He started stuttering and trying to ignore me but I pushed it. He finally admitted that he didn't know much, but the guy who owned it before him told him about the blower and the 11's. Oh. No time slips and doubtful that engine ever saw a blower.

The BSing is an unavoidable part of the fast-car scene but I do my part to hold it down, and I recommend we all do the the same, when possible.

Trust me; these same guys will be lying about their golf score in 20 years. It's probably genetic.
