Exclamation 3.55 gears

Nikolas:

Let me clarify.

3.55's are an excellent all-around rear gear for the street or with power-adders (like a supercharger). Good acceleration with minimal impact on RPM for cruising (about 2200 RPM @ 70 mph).

For the track, or heavy-duty, serious (i.e. money on the line) street racing, you want at least a 3.73 or a 4.10, maybe a 4.56 in some cases. Of course, to make use of that gear you need real power and some serious traction or you'll just go up in tire smoke every time. Cheater slicks help but soft compound street tires and good traction devices will get you launched well with steep gears.

Rear gear choice depends on your plans for the car. For stoplight racing with a mildly modified 5.0, 3.55's will do just fine. They do for me.

Beyond that (track or serious street racing with lots of mods) 3.73/4.10 is prefered.
