If it's just being used to activate a relay, you could tap into the wire going to the positive side of the coil. It's controlled by the ignition switch. BUT, for a cooling fan, you really should have power available at all times, IMO. One of the benefits of an electric fan is it's ability to cool the engine while the engine is not running. As long as the fan t-stat is set correctly, this will yield you optimum results.
