Default Power Steering Cylinder Ram

I recently went to get my front end aligned, but was told that the job couldn't be done cause my power ram was leaking. First question is: How hard would it be to do my own reconditioning of the ram? I mean, is it something really critical that has complex parts, or is it straight forward? If it's not a good idea to do the job myself, what is a good price to look for to have this work done? I'm trying to decide if it's better to re-condition the ram I have now, or just buy a new one. Thanks for any help!
