The flashing light could also indicate a malfunction in the airbag system. Basically your airbag will not deploy now if you get in an accident. There are several accelerometers mounted in the car that sense the force of an accident and trigger the airbag. A bad connection, cut wire, bad sensor etc.. could cause this.
