Default EEC Coolant Temp Sensor...

Has anybody had this thing go bad? I am still troubleshooting my ignition/miss/hesitation and have replaced everything and I mean everything short of injectors.
I am looking in my Ford manual to see if there is anything written up about it.
I just unplugged it and took it out for a spin and it ran pretty good, a lot better than it has been.
I assume the EEC just references a memory table if it is recieving no input from the sensor.
I read that a malfunctioning one could cause problems ranging from too rich(hunting idle) to too lean.
Man, I will be pissed if this has been the problem the WHOLE time. I know I have never changed this thing...
