Yikes! Good luck man! My dad went with me to look at a Mustang when I was 16 and laughed at me when I said I wanted it. Needless to say, I went home in a CRX SI. Not bad but it was probably the best car for me at that age. I think if I had a Mustang at 16 I wouldn't be here now to discuss it. You could be more controlled than I was and if that's true, you could tell them about the traction control, anti-lock brakes and dual airbags. Tell them you don't care about how fast it is but that you just love the looks. Tell them you will make a deal that if you get a speeding ticket in the first 6 mos of owning it they can park it for a full month.

These suck but I'm trying for ya..
