Long tube headers will make more power. As much as 10 hp more on the same engine. Unless the car is lowered, I would go long tube.

My car is drastically lower than stock, so I run heddman shorties for the 351 windsor conversion in a 66 stang. I have run hooker full length headers in a 70 stang before and they ran GREAT. I have run tri Y headers before, but the hookers really made a difference and the tri Y's were basically no better than shorties.

As for the money, you can spend it now or spend it later, but headers are a pain to install. I would buy ceramic just for the reduced underhood heat. So save up your nickles dimes and quarters and get ther ceramic. You will be glad you did.
