I have a 393, professionally built by a very reputable local builder. I wanted the fastest and quickest street legal Mustang in town. My problem was that I am young (sometime stupid), and used a electric fan during the break-in period and I overheated the engine quite a few times before I found out that I needed to have the engine mounted fan and shroud for street use in heavy heat. The end result was too much endplay and copper in the oil filter (read: worn bearings) after the initial break-in and no trips to the drag strip. Almost a year later I am now dropping the engine back in after a complete rebuild (and a biger cam now that I got a sticker) and a trip to the tranny shop to make sure that the heat didn't do much damage there either. Hopefully things wil go right this time and I can get some much needed passes down the strip, and put more than 200 miles on the car.
