Not really, when you do it this way your not really compressing the spring that much. You put the front end up on jack stands and let the front suspension hang down to the end of its travel. Put a floor jack under the control arm, take the bolts out and slowly let the floor jack down, take the spring out the back side, put the new spring in, raise the jack up to get the control arm in place, put the bolts back in and your done. I have done it both ways and this is much easier.
