How would you join the two lines together? Wouldn't you need a union fittng. As far as I know "union fitting" is a generic term used to describe a fitting that will join two lines of the same type together, whether it be ORS, ORB, JIC, pipe...etc.
You are right as to the double flaring but they still must be connected together.
