Sit up straight and forget the 'cool laid-back' look. Not on the track. Adjust the seat until you feel the best position for shifting; it may be a lot closer to the wheel than usual but it's only for 1320 feet.
Wear a thin driving glove on your right hand for better shifter grip.
Watch the tach! Know your shift points - have them memorized - and don't over- rev.
Shift fast and hard (we'll assume you have an aftermarket shifter) and don't let up on the gas (power shifting) but if you choose to lift between shifts, do it as fast as humanly possible as power shifting, alone, can be worth a tenth. It's also tough on the clutch, trans and rear so don't do this consistantly on the street unless you like replacing driveline parts.
Practice, practice, practice.
