Remove the SPOUT connector, start it, and check the timing. It should be at 10 degrees. Try advancing it to 14 degrees, and then replace the SPOUT connector. Test drive it, and see how it does. If you experience any pinging, stop immediately, and reset the timing to 12 degrees. The important thing to remember is to ALWAYS remove the SPOUT connector before you adjust your timing, and to replace it when you are finished.

Your idle problem sounds like it might be due to a dirty IAC valve. You could remove it and clean it with CRC Brakleen (green can) and a small brush or some pipe cleaners. If you do this, though, you must reset the ECM, and allow it to "relearn" after you are finished, otherwise it won't make any difference.

Take care,
-Chris
