Alot of extra force on the clutch... when you engauge that clutch it's only friction that keeps it pressed up against the engine's output... why not start in 5th gear... you'll get going eventualy... it's amatter of least amount of wear on the clutch.. I'm assuming that's why he says that... it'll wear out the clutch faster then if you started it in first.. but HOW MUCH? I dunno.. might be negligable .. might be noticable... not sure on the figures... that's my guess...
