You have a couple options:

First you could simply remove some of the heat from the engine compartment with a cowl induction hood (actually meant for carbs!) or some hood vents (search in here (windsor power) there was a topic a couple months ago) which I think look a lot better than a big fat hood lump that everyone has. A cowl hood actually might be good if you get one of those K&N filters with the "power top" thingie that lets air through the top.....that'd be super cool

You could also grab a dual snorkel setup off an older stang, or buy a new one such as this: http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/1...ox/index.shtml

On the tranny thing, i don't know about those prices, but your probably mostly paying for someone to take it apart as transmissions are pretty complex.
