Thanks for contacting CARFAX by email.

This is likely a minor VIN decode error. These are frequently caused by the factory either not making the distinction (in the VIN) that you are looking at, or else they simply miscoded this car accordingly.

From time to time we do see instances of VINs decoding a little bit off from the truth - subtype listed incorrectly, engine displacement off by some minor degree, etc. As long as the basic car is identified correctly, then there is no real cause for concern.

The essential use for the VIN here is to simply make sure we are offering the history of the right car.

Hi I just ordered a report on my 2000 Mustang GT, VIN# 1FAFP42X6YF187279

Your report shows it being a 32 Valve SOHC, which I *think* is not possible.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
