Some times it is caused by a lack of back pressure and what you hear is the cold air being sucked back into the hot exhaust flow. Long tubes headers even make this more prone, as they scavage further down in the exhaust system.
Doesn't everyone with this problem have Off Road pipes? If you have hi-flow cats or cats in general it is less likely to happen.
