When I first heard the term "ricer", I kinda had a small problem with it also. I am just not one for name calling, I guess, and I specifically don't like to jump on bandwagons and follow popular trends, whether good or bad-- that's just me-- so I can kinda understand where you are coming from, really. But I, just like a lot of other REAL musclecar enthusiasts (notice, I said "car", not "Mustang"--even though I am specifically a Mustang enthusiast, I am also secondarily a "musclecar" enthusiast) get really stinking annoyed with stupidity. It's just the whole "rice" scene that is really annoying. When you are someone that takes pride in hard work and putting a car together and then you get this "poser" come up beside you, it's rather disgusting. I don't need to get into all the details about what is a "ricer" and what is not, that question has already been answered quite well in this thread and especially
this one. The mental and physical (well-outlined by 84LX89GT) aspects of riciology have been spelled out.
The only real way I think one can understand why people get SOOOOOO stinking frustrated with ricedom is to get themselves a serious muscle/sports car (Mustang, Supra Turbo, Corvette, Skyline GTR, Camaro, etc, etc), then put tons of HARD WORK into it and then have these stupid little annoying riceboys w/ their rockets talk alot of big talk about what they have and what they can do, and pose, and pose and pose etc etc, and that person will soon understand.
Pretending in this case is CHILDISH and stupid. These guys need to abandon this pitiful world of fantasy and wake up!
To me personally it is frustrating, but then again, I have to think, well, even though I think their cars are STUPID childish or whatever, people are different and have different opinions, tastes, etc. One reassuring thing, how would we know what is awesome (eg, well-put-together '69 Camaro) if we don't know what SUCKS (eg, a riced out 'stang)????????
You have to admit, this is a Mustang message board so many opinions and praises will sway primarily towards MUSTANGs and other domestics. Don't expect that you will just come in and change people's minds or perspectives on rice hating (...and I don't suppose that is why you post such threads). Just an observation, but believe it or not, some people here see your questions or remarks, as polite as they may be, as definding rice and that will not go over well here, even if that was not your intention. Just remember where you are. Right? of course if I went over to a strictly import board and started posting the same types of questions there and kept pushing the subject again and again, people are gonna automatically start thinking I'm some domestic guy that has come to start trouble-- well, most likely-- you gotta be honest.
One thing is for sure
TINC, you have been very polite asking your questions even though you keep pushing the subject and b/c of that (even in the face of some snide remarks from one or two of our wonderful members
), this thread has not gotten out of hand as it has the potential of doing. I enjoy reading your posts. You seem like an intelligent guy (alright you guys don't laugh). We need a few more like you around here, one not easy to start or encourage a flamewar (but you still need a Mustang, dude
)
....And I must say I am impressed by others who have kept this thread under control (lack or name calling, snide remarks) by utilizing patience with TINC's repeated questions.
All in all, remember, this is a Mustang site (just reminding you) and we have different opinions here. You have to live the life (mentally and physically) a few years as a real Mustanger to properly understand ricedom, posing, whatever, from our perspective.........
But.......
Let's not make this rice hating stuff a religion and start going on crusades and stuff cause then we really got some issues more so than the ricers......
