when i took mine off, we undid everything and just yanked it. didnt plug anything in the firewall at all. im sure you could, but what is the point?
the freon will leak out when you take the line off. its in the form of a gas and wont hurt anything, JUST BE CAREFUL. dont really want that stuff on your skin.
the only reason you get the kit is so you can pull the compressor and the kit relocates the tensioner pulley so the belt will not hit anything. some people have done this on their own, just moving the tensioner to the a/c bracket somehow so it would act in the same manner. you can go either route or just disconnect it all and leave the compressor. dont see why you would do all that and leave the compressor though. puts more drag on the belt. not much, but it all counts, right?
hope that clears it up for you.
