I believe that the AFR 185 will comply with his combo provided he keeps the cam "mild". I.e. something with lift below .500" and duration below 230.
A B-cam/Crane 2040 or an E-cam are both considered mild blower-friendly generics that should make piston-to-valve clearance a non-issue. My TFS's have the same limitations.
185's require hardened pushrods too, like tfs heads and special guides.
Jonnyk is right about the bushings for 7/16" but that's no biggie.
I also agree that 165's would probably be best for your planned combo.
