Your right, porting and polishing is used on heads and intakes. Porting expands the size of the runners in your heads and intake, allowing more air to flow through, and you can also smooth out any obstructions that may restrict the air flow. An example of this is the "bump" that ford heads have on the top side of the exhaust ports. After you do your porting, you can polish the walls of the runners by using different grits of sanding bits. I know I may have used some wrong terminology, but hopefuly you get the idea. - John
