When ever a manufactering company sells both parts and "complete" units there is always a massive price difference.
Margin expectations for complete units are typically 20% to 40% while parts margins are typically 40-80%.
In both Caterpiller and Ingersoll-Rand's system I've seem O-rings with a cost of 2-3 cents sell for $1.00. Or a bolt cost $1.00 and sell for $10.00.
Most company's realize that a machine will comsume atleast it's value in parts over it's entire life cycle if not 2 to 3 times!!
