You also can't be absolutely sure that the other guy is actually getting 16-18 mpg in town or how he drives. Some people like to boast and tend to stretch the truth about. Your mileage does sound about right for that weight/model truck. Probably the only thing you can really do is try not to go full throttle as much because in open loop the engine dumps fuel at WOT and also try and avoid stop and go traffic.....but then again why alter your life around gas mileage. Now i'm rambling...i'll go away now.
