It was a good day, I made some progess. I tore the engine down originally because of blue smoke during start up and while accelerating. I noticed today that the old oil pump was the notorious
HV version. I wonder if that could have been part of the problem??
I "blueprinted" my standard oil pump by the Mathis book. There is really not that much in an oil pump.
All the tools a
redneck needs to make standard pushrods, GT-40P heads, a decked block, and 1.6 roller rockers play nice together

I had to take the pedistals down 0.015" to get the right preload of 1/2 turn.
