If i'm not mistaken, the turbo 4 cylinder T5's have REALLY steep gears compared to the V8 T5 which has lower gears for more torque capacity and less need to multiply the already plentiful torque. I think the input shafts may be different between the two and i think i've heard the output shafts are the same. Don't quote me on this though  hope this helps out some, i don't have any books i can pull out to set this straight.
