Having done this over the summer, I would say just pull and install the whole kit and kaboodle (engine and tranny ). I don't know, I just thought that the whole process was much easier that way. The only caveat is that you need to make sure that you've got the front end of the car up high enough so that the tail shaft of the tranny clears the ground as your sliding the engine and tranny back into the bay.
