No metal is gonna flake off, trust me on that one. Casting flash is just metal that sticks out from the smooth surface, and interrupts the airflow in the intake. Out of the box, this intake doesn't look much different than the Edelbrock castings (they aren't all that great, either). I would definitely recommend spending some time on it with a dremel and some emery cloth (I did and it was totally worth it).
Good places in Alberta (as mentioned before) are Western Motorsports, and The Mustang Shop. I bought my intake through WMS as well.
