It is cooler in the car and supposedly better environment for the electronics. Although I have never heard of anyone having problems with the MSD box getting too hot under the hood. That is where mine is.
One drawback I have heard of when you mount it inside the car is elecrical interference "noise" reaking havoc with your car's computer. I have heard of people that have had to move the box or re route the wires when this happened.
