Couple problems here. first, you don't need
to give up lock-up to get more stall.
Yes, AOD's do need to be modified to use
non-lock. also, do NOT use a "cheap"
converter - they don't have the torque
multiplication of good converters, as well
as durability problems. I got a 2500 lock-up
from Art Carr and works super. other good
ones are Precision (www.converter.com) and www.levelten.com. for good Ford tech info,
see www.baumannengineering.com. for a superb
in-depth AOD/E article, check www.tccoa.com, their tech articles, trans section - written
by a Ford trans engineer. do some research
and learn about your trans before you start
buying parts based on cost.
