As far as your oil problem goes, if the engine has been ran, then clean the dipstick and check it again. When you see where the oil mark is, get a punch and a hammer, and punch a dimple at the top of the oil line. This is now your new, accurate dipstick.

So are you saying to fill the motor with 5 quarts...let the motor run to get oil into the filter, shut off & then re-check dip stick and put a punch where the oil is? You got me thinking here...because I was under the impression that most 302s took a little less than 5 quarts. So is it more like 4 & 3/4s of a quart...or 5 quarts even?
