yes you should worry, i replaced my fuel pump a while back, and noticed a strong annoying gas smell after i put it in, well one day i filled up, and some guy in a minivan flashed his lights at me, i pulled over, and he said he saw gas coming from under my car, so i got fed up, and also realized it was dangerous, so i dropped the tank and found that the rubber seal that mates the pump in the tank, was kinked, alowing gas to seep out, also can be your (float) gas guage sender, which has a similar rubber piece, i couldnt get the gasket anywhere without having to buy a new pump, so i went to a (bearing) company with the broken gasket in hand, and matched up a size, which it was (round cut instead of square) but had no problems since.
just a thought, but your gonna need to drop the tank and find out whats going on, could be a clip, look for stains where gas could have been sitting, or seaping top side of your tank when you drop it, it's not hard once you've done it a couple times.
have you replaced your pump recently?
