I remember those high school days. I had a 91 GT that was AOD and my buddy had a 93 GT T-5. We were at the top of the class as far as speed goes. My car ran 14.7 and the 93 GT ran 14.3's. At the time, everyone was more concerned with "dubs" rather than horsepower.

That's high school for ya
