What you do have is probably a run of the mill stock T5, which is a great relieable tranny. Before you install that puppie you might what to have a shop take a peek inside as the T5s have a tendency to be very had on 3rd gear, as well if it is a non-sincronised revers tranny the reverse is usually chewed up too.
On a more possitive note a crossmember is available for this application. (T5 in 65 mustang). I would start by contacting a company called Windsor Fox. They make all kinds of unique things such as you desire for your application.

Yeah, I brought the car to a transmission shop and they said it is awesome shape...it looks like it was just rebuilt, like what the guy told me that I bought it from....so the tranny is in great condition...it has bout 250 miles on it

But with the reverse---is that why I get a little grind every now and then when I put it in reverse??
