my old beast came with an original vinyl top. it wasn't a liquid as far as i can see!
but plain old vinyl. you can buy the vinyl roofing kits from california mustang for $77.95. and you could probably get them from other specialists like mustangs unlimited. i don't know how easy/hard it would be to do it though. good luck!
