oh wow Jeff65, what a story!, i love it!!! i'm still laughing!

thankyou VERY much, i will most definately check my own coil wire. i think that may be my problem!. i sure travelled some bumpy roads on the way to idaho, and its probably the original coil wire too. isn't it funny how these old cars are so full of personality, thats why i adore them so much!
i actually have a story like that of my own.
a couple of years ago, when i first got my stang, i was out for a driving lesson with my mom. yeah i know i learned late, but i wanted to learn in my very own stang!

, anyhow, as we turned a corner in a little quiet suburban street, the engine sputterd and died. turning the key got valient efforts from the starter motor, but nothing else. my mother was at this point swearing, and you know, being a mother!

(she didn't want me to get a mustang in the first place, nevermind an old slightly dented 4 coloured one!) anyways, we ended up pushing her (the car, not my mother! lol) out of the t intersection, and parking under a tree, as it was about a zillion degrees and i also have no air conditioning.
i tried again to start her, and she put forth her best effort yet, nearly catching and then letting forth a brilliant backfire complete with jet black exhaust cloud. i opened up the hood to check things out, and saw a wire, i hadn't noticed before. i wanted to play with it and see where it went , but me being completely green about cars and knowing my mother was about to explode, i just agreed to go with her to find a phone for triple a.
we walked about 10 blocks in the broiling sun before we found a pay phone, and then were told by a cheerful operator that there would be a 3-4 hour wait for a tow truck. so back we went and waited in silence for the towy. when he finally turned up,4 1/2 hours later, he didn't check anything under the hood, he said it wasn't 'done', so ok!, anyways, he towed us home.
later that day, when my father got home from work and heard the saga, he nearly wet his pants looking under the hood. it turns out one of the wires from the coil was shorting out against the engine block!. he adjusted and secured it, and my car started up like nothing ever happend!. i was so embarrassed!!! the only way i can console myself, is that i knew, that wire looked out of place! lol! i've learnt a bit more about cars since then, how can you not when you run an older beauty, but i'm still pretty green! thats why i LOVE this place!!!!
hey thankyou again too, hobgoblin351, i actually didn't know about not getting anything into the carburetor!. just as well i havent had a proper go at that yet!
i'll let you guys know how i get on. and i can't thank you enough for your help.
