Brad, It's going to depend on how high your car is sitting. The 5.5's will work if your car is sitting up high, it just wont look very good. I had my rearend narrowed 2.5 inches so I could use the 5.5's. I bought them for the same reason you are wanting them.
The price I got the 5.5's for justified spending $150 to get the housing cut. I cut the axles myself in the chop saw.
