This happened to my brothers "other" stang on the highway. SOmewhere along the way the Alternator went out and started to drain the batt. He said is started to get dimmer and run like *** and it just died. Sounds alot like your problem. If you are going to replace the alternator, get a 130 amp. Read the links LX5091 gave you as well as run a search on 3G upgrade. If you get a PA alternator, they are a direct bolt up. If you use a 94 3G (like I did) there is some MINOR adjustments that have to be done, but are not hard. Good Luck!
