				 plasti-gauge
Plasti-gauge is just used to measure clearances when you're building an engine. You put it between the crank journal and the bearing and torque to spec. Then you take it apart again and use the package stripes to measure the clearance. You then know if its OK or not.
Professional machinists/engine builders don't use plasti-gauge though. They use precision micrometers to measure the shaft journals and the bearings and then subtract the difference to get the clearances.
