I would not because the input shaft is too long and too narrow. The imput shaft will press into the crank and can cause the bearings to fail prematurely. Also you should have a pretty good vibration to boot.
The four banger trans is alot weaker and 1st gear will be almost useless.

Agree. They are weak. You will break one within a year on a stock 5.0. I didnt know about the length of the shaft though, Buddy used one in his 79. He made the pilot bushing. Worked fine, then about year later it went. This was on his STOCK 79 2bbl motor! People drag race them for the first gear. They dont get many passes on them if they are lucky. Also, they are cheap and plentiful to come by not to mention the are very weak!
