I'm not sure why either but I'm guessing that it's a good way to test the gripping force of the disk
If the disk is really worn out then I would assume that the clutch would slip and not stall right away.....even in 4th gear.
That's just my guess though.
I don't think it would work if you had really low gears like 4:10 or lower.
