Before you changed the oil, did you just go by what the low oil light was telling you, or did you actually check the oil level to see if it was low? How about after you changed the oil...did you use the dipstick to check the level and see if it was OK?

If you check the oil level and it's OK, the problem may be your oil level sensor, which tells the low oil light when to light up. The sensor may be defective and indicating a low oil condition when there really isn't one.

When I had my 91 Mustang LX, the low coolant light used to come on all the time, but there was plenty of coolant in the radiator. The problem was the coolant level sensor.

Alldata.com says there is a technical service bulletin for this problem on the 96 Mustang GT. The bulletin is #97-24-15. Good luck tracking down the problem.
