This comes in really handy around all the driver feedback speed limit signs around here in Orlando. For those of you unfamiliar with these signs, its a speed limit sign with a "your speed" window built in. Same size as a regular sign. They use them a lot around schools. The problem is, they emit K-band all the time, even when not displaying speed, and they are very long range. My detector will pick one up over 2 miles away in heavy traffic. Police like to hide around them because people ignore their detectors in those areas. Sneaky bastards.
The lasers detectors are infra-red. I looked into various emitters from scientific equipment wharehouses to overwhelm them but found it to be cost restrictive. The lasers are narrow and aimed most often at headlights and front license plates because of their reflectivity. One of the guys I spoke with said that high beams put out enough infra-red to reduce laser effective range by 50%. Remove front plates if allowed to. Black cars reflect less laser than white.
