Always use a shop vac, even though i didnt  but you worry too much, just clean out as much as you can, anything visible, any small pieces (in my opinion) will be burned into dust and pushed out with exhaust......i would be more worried about dropping the distributor bolt down the hole  always stuff a towel there fo sure.
