Yeah, I installed the PI converter after the transgo kit had been in for a while, and it softened my shifts as well. Since the converter is "looser" and slips to a higher rpm before fluid coupling, the impact of the shift will be absorbed into the converter, if that makes since. However, the trade off of performance is more than worth getting the converter, even with softer shifts.

Actually, now I have a Lentech VB and the shifts are absolutely great. Much better product than the shift kit.
