The "dog-bone" is supost to be tuned for the gear ratio for you car. If you change to a lower gear (3.73, 4.10, etc) it's just plain useless and dead weight.

Now would be THE best time to put aftermarket control arms on your car. You can pick up a set of X2C uppers and lowers for $140 bucks. And they're quality stuff, Bob Cosby runs them on his NMRA Cobra and he's well into the 11's.

But if your gonna use the stock control arms, I just stock a screw driver through the middle, then beat them out with a big hammer.
