Rule out the bad gas possibility. If you only put 2 gallons into an empty tank you should be able to put another 5 gal of gas in. Might take awhile for it to get from the tank to the motor though,
Fuel filters don't normally completely plug up all of a sudden.
Check for spark. If no spark, suspect the coil or the infamous distributor module. Both are known to fail abruptly.
Sounds more like an electrical/ignition problem if it won't fire with starting fluid.
